This song is based off of a story i read in the book "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" by Frederick Douglass.
There was a part about how a slaves favorite job was to be sent to "the great house farm" because while they walked through the woods alone they could sing as loud as they wanted. Douglass said that most of the songs they sang while walking consisted of, "I'm going to the great house farm!"
This story symbolized something for me. the great house farm symbolized something. I have a hard time explaining it, but something Frederick said in the book was that when the slaves were singing, they weren't singing about how they were content, but they were singing because of their pain and hurt. This made me see even more how powerful singing is. I do the SAME thing when i write and sing music!
I thought of the story in the spiritual sense also. Just finding freedom in God, and crying out our hurts to him.
Man! this is hard to explain! :) If you have any questions about the song, recording, mix, etc. email me at
